Shelby Hume and Breanne Peters are Dressage, Naturally Endorsed Clinicians.
Both Shelby and Breanne have been trained to teach the 3 Day clinic, "Finding the Sweet Spot for Healthy Biomechanics". It is probably the most important information and I am so happy to be able to have it reach more people than I can do by myself. The curriculum is the result of teaching this information to hundreds of students around the world.
I feel very confident that Breanne and Shelby can bring you the Dressage, Naturally information in a fun and safe way that still challenges you to achieve the results you want. They will be able to guide you through the skills and information while keeping in touch with the concepts that I find so important: That students learn to trust their instincts, that bodies seek harmony if given the opportunity, and that curiosity and experimentation are key to learning. One of the goals of the clinics will be to help prepare riders for my more advanced clinics, which focus on Riding in Connection and the Upward Spiral of Success of Gymnastic Development.
I am still available for all clinics, but will be focusing on the more advanced clinics, so please consider Breanne and Shelby for the Sweet Spot clinics! Contact Sally Taylor at info@dressagenaturally for more information. ~Karen
Shelby Hume
Shelby Hume has loved horses from her first breath and started her work in 4-H where she rode and competed in a wide variety of events; Shelby considered them all opportunities to be a more well-rounded horse person. She was drawn to Dressage but her first experiences with Dressage did not match the picture of the "happy athlete" she was hoping for.
She pursued a BA degree in Business Administration and strengthened her teaching skills in the equestrian world and in Tae Kwon Do. She has spent time in the world of Reining through Showing, and being a NRHA judge. Shelby taught at a College Equestrian program and coached Intercollegiate Riding and Judging Teams through out her years of employment there. She studied and rode in Portugal, fell in love with the Lusitano horse and a version of Dressage that was closer to Shelby's ideal picture (but not quite there yet)!
Her first Lusitano stallion caused Shelby to pursue Natural Horsemanship because of the challenges he provided to her. Through this journey Shelby learned about Karen Rohlf. She has been thrilled to have the opportunity to study with Karen over the past several years and considers Karen to be her "true north". She looks forward to not only bringing her own horses along in the image of Dressage Naturally but she also looks forward to sharing her passion for this way with others.
Note from Karen: I have known Shelby for several years as she returns to the Temenos twice a year with one of her Lusitanos. Through this I have had the chance to see Shelby as an excellent, focused and humble student. She always demonstrated being a partner and leader for her horse. I observed amazing progress with each visit, realizing quickly that if I put a little bit into Shelby, a lot comes out! Her horse has clearly showed me the depth of her understanding! I also was able to observe her interactions with the other students and realized they tended to gravitate towards her as a quite, calm leader and role model for their riding. I also have gotten glowing feedback of her teaching skills. She is methodical, open-minded, clear and has great empathy for the student experience.
Breanne Peters
Breanne Peters began her horsemanship journey with her first pony at the age of 4 and her passion for horses has never ceased. She began her natural horsemanship journey with the horse she bought at age 12.
She trained in Western; Reining, Pleasure, Conformation and Barrels and Competitive Trail - doing light competing. Eventually she found Parelli; achieving her level 1 and 2 in 1 year. She was working on her 'old' level 3 when her horse was diagnosed with a serious illness. At this time she travelled to B.C. to work on a ranch for 7 months to gain more horsemanship experience. It was through working for the ranch that Breanne found Dressage Naturally.
Bre has continued at University to earn her credits towards becoming an Elementary School Teacher. Her focus is on communication and in addition to University she also studied the course: Crucial Conversations.
In 2007 Breanne moved to Temenos Fields for 1 year to spend more time understanding Karen and her methods. Breanne has since returned for 6 months periods of time for the past 2 years to continue her Dressage, Naturally education. Breanne has trained her current horse to Second Level Dressage in one year and has aspirations of reaching higher levels with quality. She is eager to aid others in their horsemanship and Dressage, Naturally journey.
Note from Karen: Breanne has spent 5-12 months a year with me over the last 3 years. In this time I have been able to work closely with her as she develops her own horses and rides mine. She has played many roles here, from working student to assistant in training horses, to assisting in group dynamic facilitation during clinics here. She has excellent rapport with horses and humans. I noticed quickly that my students gravitate towards her for mental and emotional support... And she is willing and able to give it. She has a personal focus on communication and it is evident when you interact with her. She has shown great focus, patience, enthusiasm and determination during her process as a student with me. She also has been the only person besides me that has ridden Monty on a daily basis because she is the only one who he told me had permission to do that... If that isn't recommendation enough I don't know what is!
